To reduce anxiety for applicants awaiting admission, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced new measures, including enhanced tracking for admission statuses and simplified procedures for updating personal details.
The Board stated that these updates aim to foster transparency and strengthen public confidence while minimizing candidate stress throughout registration, testing, and acceptance processes.
The JAMB registrar Segun Aina announced these changes on Wednesday during an interaction with Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates at the Abuja Zonal Office, held as part of the Board’s 2026 Customer Week celebrations.
According to Aina, these modifications are aimed at resolving persistent complaints regarding vague admission details, difficulties in updating personal data, and other challenges that have previously subjected applicants to unnecessary stress during the admissions process.
“All the policy optimisation that we are doing is centred around two things: building trust and reducing trauma,” he said.
Aina explained that in the past, candidates received vague admission notices—such as “not admitted” or “admission in progress”—without sufficient context to understand their actual application status.
He noted that the upgraded system now provides comprehensive insights into the admissions workflow, enabling applicants to clearly track their standing rather than remaining uncertain while awaiting decisions.
Addressing name corrections and other personal data updates, Aina stated that JAMB’s partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has made it possible to rectify legitimate errors in candidate records without compromising the integrity of the admissions process.
He clarified that the Board had previously imposed strict restrictions on such modifications out of concern that dishonest individuals might manipulate identities to secure admission unlawfully.
Backstory…
Uncertainty over admission status, difficulties accessing registration details and delays in resolving errors in candidates’ records have been among the challenges applicants encounter.
The pressure intensified in September 2026 when JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) experienced a temporary disruption that affected admission processing.
The board subsequently restored the platform and urged institutions to accelerate their admission exercises to meet the agreed deadlines for the 2026/2027 academic session
Meanwhile the lastest reforms by the board comes few months after takeover of operations by it’s new registrar, Segun Aina.
Recall that in May, President Bola Tinubu appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
