President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He will replace Professor Ishaq Oloyede when Oloyede’s two-term tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
Although, he turns 40 in July, Segu Aina’s appointment has since garned attention partly because of his age, as he is set to become JAMB’s youngest ever registrar.
In a statement announcing the appointment, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform”.
Key facts to know about him:
Aina attended two British universities to establish his academic background.
He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in 2008 before obtaining an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security from Loughborough University in 2009.
Segun Aina later completed a PhD in Digital Signal Processing at the same university.
He began his career at the very board he now leads
Aina had intimate experience with JAMB even before he was appointed registrar.
During his National Youth Service Corps posting, he started his career with the board and gained early exposure in data-driven institutional administration and national admissions procedures.
He became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors at 39
He has advised the presidency and state governments
He has consulted for Nigeria’s major examination bodies
He co-founded a technology company
He belongs to several professional engineering bodies
