Armed members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group on Sunday stormed several communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, openly spreading extremist ideology and threating residents with violent attacks if they refused to embrace their teachings.

According to findings by SaharaReporters,  dozens of the terrorists stormed the communities on motorcycles at about 4pm, with sophisticated moving unhindered from one settlement to another.

A source said, “They gathered some community leaders and warned them to accept their ideology. They said any community that refuses to cooperate would be attacked.”

Furthermore, the attack affected the communities of Zugurma, Kulho, Soba, and Adogon Malam, all located within the Borgu axis of Niger State.

Despite many alerts to authorities, residents voiced concerns that the terrorists continued to operate freely for almost two hours without any action from security forces.

Numerous sources claim that thousands of locals gathered around the armed men as they publicly exhibited their firearms in marketplaces and other popular areas.

As of the time of report, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to calls or WhatsApp messages seeking comment on the findings.

BACKSTORY…

The Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State suffered a deadly attack in February 2026, allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram members and affiliated jihadists.

According to reports, the assault followed the communities’ refusal to accept the insurgents’ extremist ideology and strict demands. While police and state officials reported at least 75 deaths, local leaders and observers feared the toll could be higher.

Earlier reports have revealed that the terrorists previously preached in the area and tried to coerce residents to accept their rigid interpretation of Islam and reject the Nigerian Constitution. When the locals refused, the extremists returned, invaded the villages, and set houses and shops on fire.According to survivors and village chiefs, the attackers held the area for almost ten hours before police and military personnel arrived. During that time, they looted properties, abducted several women and children, and placed explosives along escape routes.
