A sudden twist at the Federal High Court in Abuja has thrown the bail application of Nigerian cryptocurrency entrepreneur and Blord Group founder Linus Williams Ifejirika, popularly known as BLord, into uncertainty.
The police had filed a motion to withdraw the counter-affidavit that was previously presented in opposition to BLord’s bail application.
However, SaharaReporters learned on Tuesday that the matter could not advance since the presiding judge was reportedly not present in court.
Meanwhile, sources told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the police abruptly dropped their counter-affidavit challenging B-Lord’s release, a move that should have allowed a prompt bail hearing.
As a result, the development froze the case’s processes.
However, the presiding judge, who was to resume sitting on Tuesday to hear the motion, has apparently become unavailable.
Insiders have now described the development as a very concerning situation.
“The police withdrawal of their counter-affidavit should have cleared the path for an expedited hearing,” a source familiar with the case said.
“Instead, what should have been a straightforward bail consideration has now descended into silence, delay, and procedural ambiguity.”
The event has raised questions about judicial accountability and openness in Nigeria’s legal system, as well as if administrative errors or potential behind-the-scenes meddling are to blame for the delay.
