According to reports from an anonymous source, it has been less than a month after so much money—about $1.5 billion—has been spent on the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery, yet it seems to have stopped its refining operations.
The source equally revealed that operations stopped on December 13th, 2024, and NNPCL kept quiet to prevent a media backlash. Hopefully, operations will resume on Monday, December 23rd, 2024.
He said, “I can confirm to you that there has been no petrol lifting activity at the plant since last week, 13th December.
“Tanker drivers are at the 18-arm loading bay of the new Port Harcourt refinery, waiting until Monday. Maybe petrol lifting will recommence.”
Recall that on November 26, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced that the refinery had completed its rehabilitation and would start its refining operations again.
NNPCL equally added that over 200 trucks would lift petroleum on that day to various distribution centers, but other reports have said only 10 trucks lifted petroleum instead.
Efforts to reach Olufemi Soneye, the spokesperson for NNPCL, have proven to be unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
