Ibadan Tragedy: 35 Dead, Police Detain Ooni’s Ex-Wife
The police have confirmed that 35 children lost their lives in the incident an event that turned chaotic at a funfair for children at the Islamic High School at Bashorun, Ibadan, yesterday, while six others sustained critical injuries.
Arrests have so far been made in connection with the incident, which included Naomi Silekunola, estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, and Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the main sponsor of the event. The fact that the principal of the school and five others were arrested could be gleaned from a statement made available by the Oyo State Police Command through the spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, on Thursday.

According to the police, the event was organized by Wings Foundation and its media partners Agidigbo FM without obtaining proper consent or safety measures.
The police have also commenced an inquiry into the incident towards ensuring justice for the culprits.
The statement also noted that the command promised to do all possible efforts toward preventing a recurrence of incidents like this in the future. It added, “The command extends its condolences to the families of those who have been victims of this incident.
