Verbal Abuse Claims Life of 11-Year-Old Schoolboy
In a lawsuit, it has been alleged that a female teacher repeatedly called an 11-year-old child ‘stupid’, after which the child took his own life due to bullying.
According to the lawsuit, which Mail Online was shown, ‘Louis Johnson pulled the trigger with a gun on April 27, 2023, after enduring months of bullying and public embarrassment from former fifth-grade teacher Donna White.’
Unfortunately, after two days in the hospital, he died, as reported by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Soon he ‘felt there is no escaping daily public humiliation all the time’, the complaint added.
The lawsuit claimed that White had ‘open, notorious, and protected pattern of bullying by systematically and chronically inflicting hurt and/or physical distress’ on Johnson by way of ‘unwanted and repeated verbal humiliation and insulting behavior, and encouraging other students to engage in like behavior against the child’. Soon he ‘felt there is no escaping the incessant and daily public humiliation’ brought on by White and the school district, the complaint added.
The lawsuit alleged White engaged in ‘open, notorious, and protected pattern of bullying by systematically and chronically inflicting hurt and/or physical distress’ on Johnson through ‘unwanted and repeated verbal humiliation and insulting behavior, and encouraging other students to engage in the same behavior’ against the child.
Shortly after he had taken his life, Johnson’s parents drew up ‘Suicide Prevention’ pamphlets outlining what happened to their son, as well as naming the teacher accused as Dawn White.
In the lawsuit, she was given the offending title of Donna White or Ms. White.
Johnson’s parents are claiming $75,000 in damages in the wrongful death suit by including funeral costs for the son, lawyers’ fees, and for their ‘mental pain and suffering,’ the lawsuit stated.
The couple has also filed to have the matter decided by jury trial.
His dad told detectives that he took his son to work with him that day and then placed several items on the counter, including the 9mm handgun, when they got home after his shift.
His dad said he would normally lock it away in a safe, but on that day he went outside to check on his truck. During that time, Johnson picked up the firearm and fatally shot himself.
The Ocala StarBanner reported that within a few weeks of Johnson’s suicide, the school district intended to terminate White from further employment after the investigation.
According to the outlet, the Marion County School Board found her actions actually constituted violations of the district’s anti-harassment policy and two of the count’s Principles of Professional Conduct for the Educational Profession.
