Justice Mark Chidiebere, a social media influencer, has been charged by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly trying to encourage soldiers and violating military social media regulations.
On Monday, Chidiebere, also referred to as “Justice Crack,” was charged before federal high court judge Joyce Abdulmalik in Abuja.
He entered a not guilty plea to a three-count cybercrime allegation.
In the first count, the DSS said that Chidiebere disseminated misleading information about troops’ poor nutrition to the public via his X account, @JusticeCrack, with the intention of annoying, offending, and inciting enmity among the populace.
The offence is said to be contrary to section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended).
In the second count, the prosecution alleged that the defendant violated Section 59 of the Criminal Code Act by publishing a viral video and making remarks about the Nigerian Army that sparked widespread negative reactions and were likely to incite fear and a breach of peace.
In the third count, the prosecution charged Chidiebere with attempting to commit a felony under Section 509 of the Criminal Code Act, alleging that he released what it described as a disparaging video and comments about the Nigerian Army.
Prosecution attorney E. Orubo further asked the court to remand the defendant in DSS custody following the defendant’s plea. Additionally, he requested a set date for the start of the trial.
