EFCC denies allegations that Yahoo Boys hacked its account.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) responded to the disappearance of its X (formerly Twitter) account after rumors surfaced that Yahoo Boys might have hacked it. The account, which had 2.2 million followers, became inaccessible on August 14, leading to speculation.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the handle @officialEFCC had been down for three days but attributed this to a network issue rather than a cyberattack. He reassured that the EFCC’s ICT department was working on restoring the account. Despite online rumors and threats from fraudsters on platforms like Reddit, Oyewale clarified that the account was not hacked but was temporarily down due to an ongoing system upgrade aimed at improving public service.

Meanwhile, the EFCC’s website and other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, remain functional. The agency has emphasized that the issue is purely technical and unrelated to any cyber warfare.
