Governor Diri Addresses Nengi Pregnancy Allegations
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has reacted to claims that he was responsible for TV character Nengi Hampson’s pregnancy.
The rumor that the Bayelsa state governor secretly fathered a child with Nengi, a 26-year-old star of Big Brother Nigeria, went viral on Monday, October 30, 2023. Upon hearing the rumor.
Nengi, a prominent figure from BBN season 5 (Lockdown), went ahead to quickly deny the allegations and confirm that she is currently pregnant.
This Bayelsa-born TV star made a string of X posts: “As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that we live in a world where people are quick to spread lies without limits. So let me clarify: I’m not pregnant for any governor.
“I’ve chosen to talk because this is not just an attack on me, it involves people I respect dearly.
I’m not going to let tongues tarnish a beautiful personal experience of my life. And while I mind my business and enjoy my pregnancy peacefully, love and wonderful Valentine weekend wishes to you all.”
In its reaction to the claim, Samuel Oredipe, the director-general of New Media to the governor, dismissed the whole affair as falsehoods and politically crafted allegations.
In a rebuttal presented on Facebook late Monday, the governor’s media aide reiterated the fact that no Nengi was in a personal relationship with Governor Douye Diri.
“The BBN Nengi Trending Story has nothing to do with Gov. Diri! Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri.
“It is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor. Nengi herself has come out clean on social media to debunk their lies. GistLover goofed yet again! All fake!” the statement read.
The statement issued added that the same news was a scheme to distract from the governor’s achievements at a time when the fifth anniversary of his administration was being celebrated in Bayelsa State.
