The Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, has commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for implementing major infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the state’s economy and securing its long-term development.
Ibrahim gave the commendation on Monday during a visit to the Gateway International Airport, where he described the facility as a significant infrastructure investment and applauded Abiodun for having the vision and political will to execute projects with lasting economic benefits.
The ambassador expressed his admiration for the airport’s design, quality and overall development, describing it as one of the finest facilities of its kind in Nigeria.
He also praised Abiodun for completing several major projects initiated by his administration since 2019, noting that successfully managing the financial, technical and administrative challenges associated with large-scale infrastructure was a reflection of effective leadership.
Ibrahim said the governor had distinguished himself by recognising that sustainable development requires investments capable of benefiting generations beyond the immediate political cycle.
He specifically praised the completion of the Epe-Ijebu-Ode road project, describing it as an initiative that demonstrates Abiodun’s focus on Ogun State’s future.
According to him, the governor’s numerous major projects showed a commitment to transforming the state through strategic infrastructure development.
The ambassador also criticised the prevalence of abandoned projects across Nigeria, noting that the failure to complete major infrastructure investments had resulted in significant economic losses for the country.
He cited the Ajaokuta Steel Complex as an example, lamenting that the project has remained incomplete decades after its establishment despite the enormous resources committed to it.
Ibrahim further commended the Ogun State Government for maintaining its focus on strategic projects, including the Gateway International Airport and major road and economic infrastructure.
He said such investments could improve the state’s competitiveness, attract new investments and create opportunities for future generations.
The ambassador noted that the airport’s strategic location and links to Ogun State’s industrial and commercial centres could contribute significantly to trade, logistics, tourism and investment.
He urged governments at all levels to prioritise projects with long-term economic value and ensure continuity in infrastructure development rather than abandoning major investments whenever administrations change.
