‘I’m the Most Qualified’ — Dickson on Presidential Ambition

Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has firmly claimed that no politician is more qualified than him to run for the highest office in the country.

In an interview with Arise Television’s “Prime Time” on Wednesday, Dickson stated that despite having extensive expertise and qualifications for the position, he decided not to enter the race.

He made the remark in response to the interviewer’s claim that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, along with their large support bases, had boosted the NDC by joining the party of their own accord.

Dickson said, “I could have run. There’s no one more qualified than me. There’s no one more qualified than me to run for presidential candidate. None.”

The former Bayelsa state  governor also added that the NDC does not depend on any individual for relevance. He stressed that the party did Obi a favour by giving him a platform.

He said the party’s leadership and founding members have provided a credible platform for politicians and supporters seeking political change.

“You are talking about names because they have gained traction, and for reasons of my own I chose not to run,” he said.

“But it should not be made to look like anyone is doing the NDC a favour. Rather, the NDC, my colleagues, and I are the ones offering people a platform.”

BACKSTORY…

Recall that Peter Obi recently emerged the NDC’s 2027 presidential candidate following his exit from the ADC. The former Anambra governor also recently announced former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate after the NDC ratified him.

On May 2, Peter Obi announced his exit from the Africa Democratic Congress.
