JUST IN: Trump Appoints Stephen Miller New White House Chief of Staff

U.S. President Donald Trump has named Stephen Miller—one of his closest advisors and the architect of his immigration policy—as his new White House Chief of Staff.

Miller, who currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff, will officially assume the role on Monday, November 9, 2026, according to a Friday announcement posted by Trump on Truth Social.

He replaces Susie Wiles, who will transition to leading the President’s broader political operations.

Commending Wiles for her exceptional service, Trump praised Miller as one of his most trusted counselors as he takes over the post.

He wrote, “I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026.

“Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — she has done a great job!”

Miller has served as a close advisor to Donald Trump since working as a copywriter on his 2016 presidential campaign.

He subsequently served as a senior policy advisor during Trump’s first term, playing a central role in shaping the administration’s immigration agenda.

Upon returning to the White House in January 2025 as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor, Miller emerged as a dominant figure in driving domestic policy and border enforcement strategy.

During Trump’s first administration, Miller helped construct key immigration initiatives, including the 2018 policy that resulted in the separation of hundreds of migrant families at the U.S.–Mexico border.

Since serving as a copywriter during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, Miller has been a close advisor to the president.

Later, during Trump’s first administration, he worked as a senior policy adviser and was crucial in determining the President’s immigration policies.

He became one of the administration’s most important characters on immigration and domestic policy after returning to the White House in January 2025 as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Adviser.

Miller contributed to the development of Trump’s immigration agenda during his first term, which included the 2018 policy that caused hundreds of migrant families to be split up at the US-Mexico border.

Backstory…

The appointment comes three days after Republicans suffered major losses in the November 3, 2026, US midterm elections, with Democrats winning control of both chambers of Congress.

Susie Wiles, who became the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff in January 2025, is leaving the position and will move to Trump’s political operation.

Her replacement, Stephen Miller, has been one of Trump’s closest advisers and a key architect of his hardline immigration and deportation policies. Trump announced that Miller would assume the role on November 9.
