Afrobeat singer and son of late music legend Fela Kuti, Made Kuti, has shared his views on marriage proposals and how he approached his own engagement.
The 30-year-old revealed that he did not kneel when proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso, explaining that he believes marriage should be a mutual agreement rather than a situation where one person appears to be “begging” the other.
He made the statement during an episode of the Timeless Podcast, aired on Nix Network’s YouTube channel.
According to him, the decision to marry should be based on mutual understanding and equality between partners.
Made Kuti and Inedoye Onyenso were married in a private ceremony held in Lagos in November 2023. He also disclosed that his wife was formerly his “school junior” during their academic years.
In 2025, the musician addressed criticisms directed at his interracial marriage, after some individuals accused him and his wife of “mixing blood” due to their different ethnic backgrounds.
Made Kuti described such ethnic sentiments as outdated, calling them a reflection of what he termed “slave mentality.”
