Obafemi Hamzat Wins Lagos APC Governorship Primary

Lagos deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee for the 2027 elections after winning the party’s governorship primary.

At the party’s secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja, APC National Governorship Primary Election Committee Chairman Jon Temlong announced the results of the primary election on Thursday and described the exercise as peaceful and transparent.

He said Hamzat polled 657,917 votes out of 657,974 votes cast, while Lanre Jim-Kamal, his sole challenger, received one vote and Samuel Ajose, another aspirant, pulled out of the race before the exercise.

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Governor Femi Pedro, and members of the Governors Advisory Council (GAC), including Ganiyu Solomon, attended the announcement.

Meanwhile, in his victory speech, Hamzat thanked Sanwo-Olu, President Bola Tinubu, GAC members, and other party leaders in the state.

He said, “I want to thank Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for what you have done for this state and the party.”

Additionally, he said, “With humility, I accept the candidacy of the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.”

‘MY LAGOS DREAM’

According to NAN, Hamzat unveiled a development agenda titled “My Lagos Dream” in his acceptance speech. In addition, he said the plan focuses on job creation, improved infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security for residents of the state.

Speaking further, he said Lagos must sustain its position as Africa’s leading commercial hub through strategic investments and people-focused governance.

According to him, his administration would focus on four key areas if elected governor in 2027.

Recall that Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu formally endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, for the 2027 governorship, describing him as the “best man for the job.”

A video clip sighte revealed that the endorsement was made during a meeting with party leaders at the governor’s office in Alausa, Lagos.

While speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu prayed for his constable and wished him courage, serenity, and heavenly assistance in his future pursuits.
