The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has on Monday May 5 begun arrest of homeless people who take shelter under bridges. Reports reveal that the task force members searched many areas of Lagos Island and so far 74 people have been detained.
A video demonstrating the arrests of several individuals, including an elderly man who seeks refuge under one of the bridges, was released by Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commission for Environment and Water Resources.

According to Wahab, they will shortly be arraigned in court.
Wahab wrote, “Earlier today at about 1a.m, Tuesday, 6th May, 2025 the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce team embarked on its usual clean up enforcement operation around Lekki axis in Lagos Island.
“The areas visited during the operation includes; Falomo bridge, Eko Hotel roundabout, Oniru Beach, Law School, Lekki Phase 1&2 and 1004 areas where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.
“During the raid exercise, a total number of 74 individuals were arrested; 72 male and 2 female, and sanity was restored in all the areas,

All the Suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
Following this, several Nigerians have reacted strongly to the video he uploaded earlier today showing men of the state environmental taskforce detaining homeless folks under bridges in the state to which Wahad responded saying that these homeless individuals should return to their hometowns if they are unable to earn a living in Lagos state.
