Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued 13 kidnapped students during an operation in Kaduna State. The students, consisting of six males and seven females, were freed after an intense gunfight with terrorists at Chigbolu village in the Kachia Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army announced the rescue in a statement on X, detailing the fierce battle that led to the successful mission. The operation resulted in the recovery of dangerous weapons from the terrorists, and several insurgents were either killed or captured.
The statement read:
“In aggressive offensive operations against terrorism and insurgency, Nigerian Army troops have obliterated yet another terrorist stronghold, successfully rescuing kidnapped students and seizing a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Troops also eliminated some insurgents, while others were captured alive.”
The rescue mission, which took place on September 12, 2024, was based on credible intelligence. Troops launched a coordinated assault on terrorist camps in the area, engaging the extremists in a gun battle. Overpowered by the troops, the terrorists fled, leaving their captives behind.
During the operation, the soldiers recovered a significant amount of weapons, including one AK-47 rifle, 87 rounds of 7.63mm ammunition, four magazines, a locally made rifle, and N192,220 in cash. Additional items such as five solar panels, five mobile phones, dry rations, and clothing were also seized.
The rescued students have since been transported to 1 Division Medical Services and Hospital for medical evaluation and care.
Additional Arrests and Seizures
In a separate operation within the same local government, Nigerian troops arrested two terrorist logistics suppliers, Mallam Usman Waikili and Salisu Idris, at Kagarko village. The suspects were found with N1.3 million in cash, along with three SIM cards, two mobile phones, three national identity cards, eight ATM cards, two PoS machines, an MTN MiFi device, and other items.
The statement also revealed that the army raided another terrorist hideout, killing three insurgents and arresting three others. During this operation, the troops confiscated N4 million and other weapons.
These series of operations highlight the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region, with a focus on rescuing kidnapped civilians and dismantling extremist strongholds.
