200 houses, schools destroyed in Kwara rainstorm

Houses destroyed in Kwara rainstorm
At least 200 houses and other valuables including; public school buildings, electric cables, have been destroyed by a rainstorm that left a disastrous impact in Ilorin and Ogele/Eyenkorin in the Asa Local government area of Kwara State.

Reports  have revealed that the disastrous rainstorm that followed the rain on Sunday evening disrupted Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Ogele-Eyenkorin and neighbouring communities in Asa LG, leaving massive damage.

Locals reported that around 200 buildings had their roofs removed following the rainstorm including schools and businesses, were destroyed in the affected neighborhood

Further reports gathered revealed that rainstorm knocked down electric poles and wires, leaving many areas in darkness, while debris accumulated by the wind blocked the drainage system at Kuntu bridge in Ilorin West.

The communities most affected by the rainstorm include; Eyenkorin, Ogele, Ifelodun, Ifesowapo, Orisunbare, Odo-Akuo, Apata Ajele, Alagbado Eyenkorin, Basa, Yakoyo, and Lekki. Among the structures damaged were Ogele Primary School, Ansarul-Deen Primary School, and D-Light A-Nur Nursery/Primary School, whose roofs were completely blown off.

At least 15 private schools, including Wilson School in Alagbado and Community Secondary School in Apata Ajele were affected. The rain storm also destroyed the roof of Government Day Secondary School and damaged the baseball fields in Adeta, situated in Ilorin West local government area.

Affected residents, many of whom are now homeless, were observed relocating their possessions to put up with with neighbors as they wait for authorities and well-meaning people to step in.

Zubairu Abiola, the vice chairman of the Ifelodun community in Eyenkorin, expressed regret over the incident and urged the state government to come to the rescue of helpless residents.

“The rainstorm has rendered many residents of the community and its adjourning areas homeless.

Zubairu said, “We want to appeal to the state governor, Mallam AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq to come to the rescue of the communities as always done by him even when there is no calamity.
