Fubara vows to protect Rivers people’s livelihood from sabotage

The suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has encouraged residents in the state, noting that the ongoing political crisis in the state will ultimately strengthen the them.

Fubara stated that some people are determined to disrupt the peace in the state by prompting violence in an attempt to deny the people their means of livelihood, saying it will not be allowed to happen.

Fubara revealed this while receiving Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitri Sallah visit.

Addressing the group, Fubara urged them and other supporters to trust in God’s plan, stating, “This season is one of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made a great sacrifice through your prayers.

“As Christians, we believe that everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe that this situation is leading us toward a greater purpose.”

He stated that the political situation may be demoralizing, but highlighted that some supernatural power may be at work.

“No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger,”

“We believe in egalitarianism, and if our beliefs bring us some pain, so be it. The most important thing is that we stand on the side of truth and righteousness.”

Fubara expressed regrets over his inability to formally reach out to the Muslims during their celebrations, but pledged that the relationship between religious groups and the government would be strengthened once the current crisis are resolved.

Fubara further urged residents and leaders to be patient, citing a biblical example. He said

“Their goal is to create problems and deny people their means of livelihood. We will not allow that. We will continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to ensure that our state remains a model for others in Nigeria,” he noted.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Nasir Uhor expressed support for Governor Fubara on behalf of the Muslim community, praising his inclusive governance and recognition of Islamic faith.

Uhor encouraged Fubara to stay steadfast and called on President Tinubu to review the emergency rule in the state.
