The PDP, which has attributed its current minority status to internal crises, court cases, and defections that followed the 10th Senate, has expressed confidence that it will regain majority seats in the National Assembly and win the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed said Nigerians were yearning for new leadership. He also accused members of the ruling All Progressives Congress of failing in constituency representation and legislative oversight.

Recall that On April 30 this year, the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu emerged victorious from the PDP’s prolonged leadership crisis.

Mohammed also stated that the PDP NWC, alongside other stakeholders, would pursue every legal means possible to reposition the party for electoral success.

He stated, “We were not having the majority number even at the beginning of the 10th Senate. Subsequently, the disputes, disagreements, court cases, and litigations within the party caused so much dissatisfaction and uncertainty.
Wherein most of the assembly members defected to various political parties. But now that we are facing another election cycle, we have the confidence that we will bounce back.
He further noted that the caliber of candidates screened will help the party recover its mandate. He added that the APC lawmakers have not recorded significant success in legislative affairs.

Additionally, he said, “They are yearning for new representation. So, we believe, with the caliber of people we are going to field, we will get the votes. Come 2027, we will, by the grace of God, not only have a majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, but we are also hoping that we will win the seat of the presidency.”
