The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the abduction of the younger sister of former Minister of Power and APC 2027 governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her twin sons in Ibadan.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command has deployed all necessary resources to secure the safe rescue of the victims and track down the armed kidnappers.

Earlier, an aide to Adelabu, Femi Awogboro, confirmed the incident, stating that the abducted woman, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were taken in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

He explained that the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. while she was on her way to drop the children at school in Ibadan, when armed men intercepted and abducted them.

Awogboro further described Mrs. John-Paul as the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, adding that she previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before her voluntary retirement last year.

The Adelabu family has appealed for calm as security operatives continue efforts to rescue the victims.

The statement from the police read, “Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Challenge Division, alongside other tactical teams, to proceed to the scene where the victim’s vehicle was recovered and commence intensive investigations.

“The Command wishes to assure members of the public that all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this criminal act.

“Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The police, therefore, urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative by providing any useful information that may assist ongoing investigations.

This comes weeks after terrorists invaded the Oriire community in the Ogbomosho area of Oyo State, killing a teacher and kidnapping about 45 pupils and teachers.

The terrorists have since beheaded a teacher Micheal Adedokun, and threatened to kill more if the government tries to use force to rescue the victims.
