Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser to Tinubu on Political Matters, told President Bola Tinubu in a startling open letter that the North is rapidly losing faith in his leadership because of increasing economic hardship, insecurity, and what he called political alienation.
Baba-Ahmed stated President Tinubu should give up on running for reelection in 2027 and instead pass the torch to a new generation.

He wrote, “Step aside — not for your opponents, but for a new generation of Nigerians who can carry the nation forward with fresh energy and ideas,”
“The north is drifting from your leadership under the weight of economic hardship, insecurity, and alienation. The east remains politically disengaged, while the south-south is fragmented. The south-west has been lukewarm… The north-east is deeply wounded and can no longer be taken for granted.”

He further condemned Tinubu’s leadership pattern and stating that he led a government that was isolated.
Baba-Ahmed urged Tinubu to use the final two years of his term to resolve Nigeria’s most important problems and make room for new leaders.
“Your closed-door style of leadership… and the perception that you frequently run the country from abroad while attending to personal matters have created the image of an isolated leader heading an insular administration.” Baba-Ahmed said.
He warned that if President Tinubu was not careful, his government was at risk of being wiped out.
“If you shift attention now to electoral ambitions, you risk losing both governance momentum and public goodwill. If you win again without reforming your style and strategy, you may spend four more years preserving failure. If you lose, your legacy could be wiped out in an instant” he warned.
