Fubara Takes Aim at Wike’s Projects’ Debt, Pledges Transparency in Financial Matters.
Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State highlighted during the commissioning of a project in Eleme Local Government Area that many projects initiated and commissioned by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, remain unpaid for, leading to significant indebtedness to contractors. Despite being part of the previous administration, Fubara emphasized transparency as a key principle of his government and stated that a white paper detailing project costs is available for public scrutiny.
He admitted that the current administration faces challenges primarily due to outstanding debts incurred by the past administration, which has led to contractors demanding payment running into millions and billions. Fubara warned that he will not hesitate to disclose further details if pushed, indicating a commitment to transparency and accountability in addressing the financial situation inherited from the previous administration.
