Conflicting reports surround former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, regarding his interaction with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). While Bello’s media team asserts that he responded voluntarily to the EFCC’s invitation, the agency clarifies that he was apprehended in a nighttime sting operation, yet remains officially wanted and not detained.
Yahaya Bello’s media office released a statement indicating his voluntary cooperation with the EFCC following consultations with his legal and political circles, asserting his respect for the law and due process. The statement emphasizes his willingness to clear his name while underlining his contributions to anti-corruption efforts during his governorship.
The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, countered claims of Bello’s custody, confirming that he is still wanted for alleged financial misconduct involving N80.2 billion. Despite reports of his presence at the EFCC, the agency reiterates that Bello has not been detained and remains a wanted individual under active arrest warrant.
