Enugu LG Poll: Ganduje Threatens Lawsuit Against ENSIEC Over APC Split.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has issued a stern warning to the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), threatening legal action over its refusal to recognize the faction of the party led by Ugochukwu Agballah. This factional dispute has escalated ahead of the scheduled local government elections on September 21, 2024, in Enugu State.
A rival faction, led by Alphonsus Nwafor, claimed to have suspended Agballah and secured a court injunction preventing him from acting as the APC Chairman in the state. In response, ENSIEC has been dealing with the Nwafor faction concerning the upcoming elections. However, Ganduje, in a letter dated August 26, 2024, accused ENSIEC of undermining the APC by engaging with what he described as “faceless persons” not officially recognized by the party. He emphasized that Ugochukwu Agballah remains the legitimate APC Chairman in Enugu State and should be the only liaison between the party and ENSIEC.
Ganduje warned that if ENSIEC continues to disregard the party’s recognized leadership and persists in dealing with the Nwafor faction, the APC would have no choice but to pursue legal action to protect its interests and ensure the proper conduct of the local government elections.
