Ex-minister urges delay in Eno’s second term campaign.

Former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, has urged those campaigning for Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno’s second term to let him focus on his first term duties. Essien emphasized that an eight-year tenure should be earned through performance over four years, not assumed after just one year in office.

While elders and stakeholders from Uyo Senatorial District have praised Eno’s performance and called for his second term, Essien believes it’s too early for such campaigns. He stated, “Umo Eno’s second term campaign is a little too early. People should allow him to concentrate and work.”

Essien also criticized the current political climate, highlighting issues of impunity, corruption, and the gerontocracy system. He argued that older politicians, especially those over 70, should step aside for younger, more vibrant leaders. “At 70, your mental capacity and physical performance have dwindled… you should be on the sideline to advise but not to be the focal point of governance,” he noted
