Sylva to appeal Bayelsa tribunal decision.
Timipre Sylva, the APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, has rejected the Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal’s judgment upholding the election of Douye Diri as governor. After a closed-door meeting with party elders and stakeholders, Sylva directed his legal team to appeal the decision.
“We are not satisfied with the decision of the tribunal,” Sylva stated, indicating plans to seek justice at the Court of Appeal. He assured Bayelsans that the appeal court would address the tribunal’s perceived injustices and urged the people to remain positive and law-abiding.
Sylva had previously accused the tribunal of bias, but his interlocutory appeal to dissolve and reconstitute the panel was dismissed. The tribunal, led by Justice Adekunle Adeleye, upheld Diri’s election, dismissing Sylva’s petition for lacking credible evidence.
