“Families Torn Apart by False Prophecies — Ndigbo.

False prophecies by self-proclaimed prophets and pastors have wreaked havoc in Igbo communities, causing family crises, enmity, and even deaths. These individuals often identify supposed evil-doers or buried charms as the source of misfortunes, inciting anger and violence. In Anambra State, Leonard Nnadi recounted how a prophet’s false accusation against his uncle led to lasting family divisions and mistrust. Another case in Omor, Ayamelum, saw a pastor’s cleansing ceremony create community discord when youths invited him to address their lack of progress, despite opposition from some elders.
