Breaking: Indian PM Modi Steps Down Just Hours After Election Victory.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resigned from his position.
On Wednesday, Modi submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu after his cabinet recommended dissolving the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of parliament. President Murmu accepted the resignation but requested that Modi remain in office until a new government is formed.
An official from the President’s House stated that Modi’s resignation is a standard protocol before forming the next government. The Election Commission of India announced that Modi’s ruling National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, will form the new government.
Modi had declared victory after his coalition won more than half of the parliamentary seats, despite votes still being counted. Addressing his supporters, Modi expressed gratitude for the victory, marking the third consecutive term for the National Democratic Alliance.
In response, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu congratulated Modi on his victory, affirming the strong relations and shared values between Nigeria and India.
