Senator Remi Tinubu, the First Lady, has pledged N1 billion to combat tuberculosis in Nigeria by 2030. The donation followed her appointment as the global and national Stop TB champion by the Global Stop TB Partnership.
TB, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a significant global health concern. Nigeria ranks sixth worldwide and first in Africa for TB burden. Tinubu emphasized the need for collective action to achieve the goal of ending TB by 2030. She urged stakeholders to ensure access to quality TB diagnosis and treatment services.
The Executive Director of the Global Stop TB Partnership commended Nigeria’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of sustained commitment and innovative funding approaches. Dr. Queen Ogbuji-Ladipo highlighted the crucial role of advocacy and awareness in eliminating TB, acknowledging the contributions of Nigerian first ladies in driving progress towards a TB-free Nigeria.
