Nigerian Army debunk news of the Chief of Army Staff’s death

The Nigerian Army has debunked news that report the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

The rumor of the Army chief’s passing away went started when a Nigerian journalist posted on X. The journalist stated that Lagbaja lost his life to cancer.

“The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has died. Lagbaja died in an undisclosed hospital overseas nearly 48 hours ago from stage three cancer, according to a senior government official. The death of the Chief of Army Staff has been kept secret due to intense lobbying by some generals who wish to take the position.

“Lagbaja, born on 28 February 1968 in Ilobu, Osun State, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023 as the 27th Chief of Army Staff.”

Using their X account, The Nigerian Army responded by debunking the news and calling it fake.

 How do Nigerians feel about this?

Nigerians on X are displeased about how the Nigerian Army debunked the fake news:

OGBENI_BAMBAM

This is not how to claim fake news, it’s done by getting the Individual to send out a disclaimer doing a video record of himself denying the allegation. Just telling you how it’s done, thanks

@EOsmond_Hart

I sincerely don’t even know what to believe anymore, to set the cloud clear can a live video be done to verify the truth and claims here, cuz as afar as Nigeria is concerned he’s among the leaders and we need to know the truth.

@menubachike

The unprofessional behavior of all institution in Nigeria is alarming, NA has joined, it took a blogger for you guys to either confirm or refute even when you owe it to Nigerians to tell us the whereabouts of COA and his health condition.

@OkpotakoFestus

Nobody should believe the @HQNigerianArmy, they are lying if Lagbaja is alive should come on live video to debunk this news, not some childish propaganda and gaslighting from the Tinubu and APC military forces.
