Just In: protest in Rivers state turns deadly, police fire shots at protesters

The planned nationwide protest organised by the Take-it-back movement has officially kicked off in different states including Rivers State. While the Demonstrators in the state Port Harcourt converged, the Rivers state police command personnel allegedly shot tear gas at the protesters

it was gathered that the officers invaded the Isaac Boro Park, where the demonstrators had gathered.

In previous reports, NaijaEyes revealed that the police had issued a warning , advising the organisers of the demonstration to back down however, this warning was met my non-compliance as the spokesperson for the Take it back movement group stated that they would not back down, adding that they were prepared for any form of oppressions from the Police force.

Arriving at the agreed location as early as 9:00 am, members of the group were met by a significant police presence.

“We are Rivers people, so nobody can tell us where not to gather,” one of the young protesters was reported to have yelled at police officers.
