Seizure of Presidential Jets: FG Must Explain to Nigerians – Obi
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, has called on the Federal Government to provide an explanation regarding the recent seizure of Nigeria’s Presidential Jets in France. Obi described the incident as an international embarrassment, highlighting it as a reflection of failed leadership and a disregard for the rule of law in Nigeria.
In a series of tweets, Obi criticized the secrecy surrounding the acquisition and management of the Presidential fleet, emphasizing that these assets belong to the Nigerian people and should be handled with transparency. He questioned the rationale behind purchasing a Presidential jet at a time when the country is grappling with severe economic hardship, noting that the government’s actions demonstrate insensitivity to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
Obi also raised concerns about the lack of transparency in government dealings, pointing out that Nigerians were unaware of the transactions involving the jets until the French court’s ruling. He called for the Federal Government to clarify how the country ended up in this situation, particularly in light of previous legal issues involving Nigerian assets abroad.
In conclusion, Obi urged the government to be more accountable and transparent in its dealings, especially when managing assets that belong to the people. He also questioned the role of the Ogun State government and the Federal Government in addressing the legal challenges that led to the seizure of the jets.
