Tinubu demands new minimum wage plan from Edun within 48 hours.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Finance Minister Wale Edun to present the cost implications of a new minimum wage within 48 hours. Minister of Information Mohammed Idris announced this after a State House meeting with the president and the federal government’s negotiation team on Tuesday.
The meeting included key officials such as SGF George Akume, Budget Minister Atiku Bagudu, Labour Minister Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and NNPC CEO Mele Kyari. Tinubu emphasized that the new minimum wage must be affordable, sustainable, and realistic, forming the basis for negotiations with labor unions.
Idris stated that the president is committed to the resolutions of the tripartite committee on the new minimum wage and ensuring the government’s promises are fulfilled. This development follows the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) suspending their strike for one week to negotiate with the government.
