Umahi criticizes Peter Obi for his remarks on the Lagos-Calabar highway, accusing him of stirring up Igbo sentiment against Tinubu’s administration.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, criticized the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, accusing him of inciting the people of the southeast, particularly those uninformed, against the federal government.

Umahi made these remarks during an event organized by the Federal Ministry of Works to compensate property owners affected by the contentious Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.

The 700-kilometer coastal highway has sparked controversy following the demolition of Landmark Beach Resort, valued at $200 million, to create a right of way for the project, estimated to cost the federal government N15 trillion.

Paul Onwuanibe, the Group CEO of Landmark, expressed concern over the demolition, describing it as “insensitive” and highlighting the significant loss of livelihoods and investments.

Peter Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration

Meanwhile, Peter Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for proceeding with the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project despite public outcry. Obi expressed displeasure at the government’s decision to pursue a project that would lead to job losses during a time of rampant unemployment.

Obi also denounced the reported demolition of businesses and residences in the designated right of way for the project, describing it as heart-wrenching and emphasizing the destruction of livelihoods and investments.

However, Umahi defended the government’s actions regarding Landmark, asserting that there was no inhumanity involved. He criticized Obi for his condemnation of others, alleging that Obi’s remarks incite individuals in the southeast who lack information.

Umahi urged people to exercise wisdom and avoid being misled, emphasizing his personal involvement in addressing the situation surrounding Landmark. He called for unity and condemned those who play politics with sensitive issues.
