Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electric Regulatory Commission (NERC) and chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Sam Amadi, has criticised the party’s recent Imo State primaries, alleging that the exercise was tainted by ticket racketeering and the exploitation of aspirants.
Sam Amadi accused some party officials of collecting money from candidates in exchange for party tickets.
Amadi made the claims while reacting to the outcome of the primaries, saying several aspirants had reached out to him with complaints that payments were made to officials without receiving tickets in return.
He further stated that many of the affected aspirants have reported instances of unauthorized payments made beyond the officially approved party fees.
Sam Amadi urged those who allegedly paid money outside official channels to contact him, promising to help them recover their funds.

“Please, if you are one of those who paid money to anyone apart from officially declared fees, contact me and let me recover your money,” he said.
Describing the situation as fraudulent, Amadi stressed the need for internal accountability within the party, warning that monetizing the nomination process undermines democratic principles.
“There must be accountability for fraud. If you collected money for a transaction, then perform or refund. Political processes must not be commercialised,” Sam Amadi added.
He called for transparency and responsibility in the party’s nomination process, insisting that proper accountability must be enforced.
