Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has responded to the US President Donald Trump’s threat and the alleged ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

According to previous report, Trump named Nigeria a Country of Particular Concerns on Friday of last week, putting the country on a watch list because to reported Christian killings.

Additionally, the US President put the US military on red alert, threatening to step in if the Nigerian government did not defend Christians from Islamic militants.

In response, Senator Seriake said in a statement on Wednesday night that the nation requires assistance from any partners in order to guarantee the elimination of the terrorists.

However, the lawmaker believed that the nation’s institutions, territorial integrity, and sovereignty “must be respected by all.”

Part of the statement reads, “Late President Buhari’s policy of appointing mostly Muslims to head all the security services during his eight years in office further worsened these perceptions.

“As Nigerians, we must be honest with ourselves that the killings have gone on for too long and government and security forces have been overwhelmed. We need help! No nation can confront terrorism in isolation. We must therefore work with our allies and partners to defeat this menace once and for all.

“It is on the strength of the foregoing that I strongly recommend that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should collaborate with President Donald Trump, the US Government, and other allies and friends of Nigeria to flush out these marauding terrorists.

“He should also improve relations with our neighbouring countries whose cooperation and support will be essential in the war against terrorism”.
