Atlanta and Nigerian international superstar, Ademola Lookman, has just won African Player of the Year at the prestigious 2024 Confederation of African Football Awards.

The award event was held in Marrakech, Morocco, in which Lookman and other players came out as winners in their categories.

The forward has been nothing short of sensational, showcasing top-notch displays in his outings for either club or country. He was instrumental in Atlanta’s win to claim the Europa League and Nigeria’s qualification to next year’s African Cup of Nations.

Lookman is no doubt a success to Nigeria and this win makes him the seventh Nigerian to win African Player of the Year at the CAF Football Awards. Other Nigerian winners include: Rashidi Yekini (1993), Emmanuel Amunike (1994), Nwankwo Kanu (1996, 1999), Victor Ikpeba (1997), and and Victor Osimhen (2023).

In October 2024, at the last Balon D’or ceremony, Lookman came in 14th on the final list and was also recognized as the first player to score a hattrick in the  Europa League Final against Victor Boniface’s Bayer Leverkusen.

At receiving his award, Lookman dedicated the award to his teammates, family, and the fans who have supported him throughout his career.
