Trump Declares Major Progress in Iran Peace Talks, Says Hormuz Could Open Soon

United States President,  Donald J. Trump has disclosed that the United States has reached an advanced stage of negotiations with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Recall that control of the strategic waterway has been in contest since the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began in late February, and diplomatic efforts have stalled for months.

Additionally, Trump had earlier warned that the strait would remain “sealed up tight” until Iran agreed to a deal with the United States.

Meanwhile, crude prices surged after the blockade, and several countries adopted stricter energy-saving measures.

Furthermore, Iran sent Washington a fresh proposal on April 27 through Pakistani mediators, offering to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war in exchange for the U.S. lifting its blockade.

In addition, the proposal would postpone nuclear talks for now.

However, it remained unclear whether Trump would accept the offer, since he has made curbing Iran’s uranium enrichment one of his war goals.

Trump claimed in a statement on Sunday that the United States, Iran, and a number of Middle Eastern allies have now “largely negotiated” an agreement, with final details being discussed.

“I am in the Oval Office at the White House where we just had a very good call with leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain concerning the Islamic Republic of Iran, and all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.

The US president also mentioned that he had a private chat with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which “likewise, went very well.”

BACKSTORY…

Meanwhile, this comes less than a week after President Donald Trump issued a firm warning to Iran to quickly agree to a peace deal with the US or face devastation.

Trump said on his Truth Social platform on Sunday that “the clock is ticking” for Iran to reach a peace deal, as Washington works to break the deadlock over ending the war.
