The US Embassy has urged its citizens in the United Kingdom to stay alert following the notice of a “severe” terrorism threat in the country.
Following an antisemitic incident on Thursday, the UK increased the level of terrorist threat from “substantial” to “severe.”
A “severe” danger rating indicates a high probability of a terrorist strike.
Additionally, the UK government claims that the change comes after two Jewish men were stabbed on Wednesday in Golders Green, North London.
The victims have been identified as Shloime Rand and Moshe Shine. However, the metropolitan police had declared the incident a terrorist move.
UK security minister, Dan Javis while speaking said the decision to raise the threat level was “not solely as a result of that attack”, but had also been “driven by an increase in broader Islamist and extreme right-wing” threats.
Following this, the US embassy advised Americans in the UK to take specific precautions, including as keeping a low profile and being security mindful, in the security notice that was released on Friday.
The US embassy said, “Stay alert in public places, including schools, hospitals, churches, tourist locations, and transportation hubs. Vary your travel routes and times to reduce predictability,” the US embassy said.
“Keep a low profile. Remain aware of your surroundings, including local events. Review your personal security plans. Report social media threats and suspicious activity to local authorities. Monitor local news for updates.”
