Tech giant Google has just been slammed with a $75 million (2.61 billion lira) fine by the Turkish Competition Authority (TCA). The fine is said to be a result of Google abusing the digital advertising market due to its reach and limiting other players in the ad industry.
TCA accuses Google of putting its supply-side platform (SSP) services first, limiting competition, and violating the competition law.
This move by Google simply snuffed out the other ad competitors, reducing their share of the advertising market. They have been given the next 6 months to correct this and provide 3rd parties with the same SSPs applied to its own services, as instructed by TCA.
However, Google intends to appeal the fine slammed against it. In an email to Reuters by one of its spokespersons, it said, “The Turkish authority decision does not take into account the intense competition where ad buyers and sellers have plenty of choice.”
The tech company has since maintained that they are committed to supporting Turkish businesses, publishers, and users.
