NLC and TUC Oppose Tinubu’s Offer of N48,000 Minimum Wage.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) walked out of a minimum wage committee meeting with the Federal Government due to the government’s offer of N48,000 as the new minimum wage. The organized labour had originally demanded N615,000 and set a deadline of May 31 for negotiations. Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, representing the NLC, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of clarity regarding the N48,000 offer, prompting the unions to leave the negotiation. A TUC source highlighted the absence of seriousness from the government’s side, emphasizing the need for concrete data to support any proposed wage figure before further discussions.
