NTT DATA and AWS Enter Major Cloud and AI Partnership

In a move set to shape how businesses adopt modern technology, NTT DATA and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have formalised a major multi-year alliance aimed at helping companies modernise their legacy systems and adopt cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) at scale. This collaboration focuses on turning complex enterprise challenges into practical solutions that unlock growth and efficiency across multiple sectors.

The partnership brings together NTT DATA’s deep experience in cloud transformation and AI with AWS’s vast infrastructure and innovation capabilities. The goal is to help enterprises move beyond pilot projects and experimentation, and to scale intelligent systems and secure cloud platforms that deliver measurable results.

Priorities for Enterprise Transformation

Under the terms of the agreement, both NTT DATA and AWS will prioritise four key areas where many organisations face significant technology hurdles: cloud transition, industry-focused solutions, customer experience, and data sovereignty.

First, they are accelerating cloud migrations for large organisations by helping move on-site workloads to AWS while using generative and “agentic” AI to improve automation and data insights. This is designed to help businesses unlock new models of operation and boost efficiency.

Second, the alliance will build industry-specific cloud platforms for sectors such as financial services, healthcare and life sciences, public services, manufacturing, retail and energy. These solutions aim to tackle sector-specific needs and regulatory complexities through reusable components and AI-driven tools that are ready for enterprise use.

Third, the focus includes improving customer interactions and managed services. This includes modernised contact centre solutions built using Amazon Connect, intended to help organisations offer more responsive, AI-supported experiences for customers.

The final priority area is compliance and data sovereignty. The partnership will enable solutions on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud that are designed for strict data residency and control requirements, a key concern for governments and companies managing sensitive information.

Building Skills and Driving Innovation

To support this ambitious agenda, NTT DATA has set up a dedicated AWS Business Group aligned with AWS’s own sales and delivery organisation. This unit currently includes about 11 000 AWS-certified experts, with plans to train nearly 10 000 more over the next three years. The idea is to ensure that enterprises have access to professionals who can implement cloud and AI technologies securely and efficiently.

Executives from both organisations emphasise how this collaboration is not simply about technology adoption but about driving measurable business value. NTT DATA’s President and CEO, Abhijit Dubey, has highlighted the importance of moving from experimentation to actual implementation that impacts business outcomes. AWS’s Vice President of Global Sales, Greg Pearson, noted that the partnership also helps companies meet evolving compliance needs while modernising workflows.

Real-World Impact Across Sectors

This partnership is already demonstrating results. For example, Honda Trading Asia successfully migrated to the AWS cloud with support from NTT DATA, opening the door to new AI innovation and a more flexible, scalable IT infrastructure. This case highlights how thoughtful cloud transitions can reduce risk while laying the foundations for future growth and automation.

Looking ahead, NTT DATA and AWS plan to develop dozens of custom cloud and AI solutions for key sectors. In financial services, these tools will help modernise core banking and compliance systems to reduce operational risk. In healthcare and life sciences, the focus is on secure, AI-enabled data platforms that improve insights and accelerate medical research. For the public sector, solutions will support compliant digital services for citizens, while in manufacturing and automotive industries, generative AI and automation will aim to improve both financial and operational performance.

Innovation labs and sandbox environments hosted on AWS will allow teams from both companies to pilot, refine and test new offerings before they are deployed broadly. NTT DATA’s support extends across advisory, transformation, implementation and managed services, ensuring clients can adopt these technologies with confidence and security.

What This Means for Africa and Beyond

Although the announcement is global, experts believe there is particular significance for regions like Africa and the Middle East where digital transformation is accelerating. Murray Campbell, Managing Director for Cloud and Security at NTT DATA MEA, pointed out that this partnership helps organisations modernise legacy systems while meeting local regulatory requirements and unlocking growth opportunities in these markets.

For businesses and governments contemplating a shift to cloud and AI, the NTT DATA and AWS alliance represents a roadmap for responsible and sustainable technology adoption that aligns with both operational needs and future innovation strategies.

The coming years are likely to see more companies adopting cloud technologies not just to improve efficiency but also to transform how they serve customers, manage data and compete in increasingly digital markets. With this partnership, NTT DATA and AWS are positioning themselves as key players in guiding that transformation.
