FG raises concern over growing surge in cyber-slavery
Minister of foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, is expected to resign from office to pursue the Bauchi state governorship ahead of the 2027 elections, according to sources familiar with the development.

The planned action comes after President Bola Tinubu ordered all political appointees who want to run for office in 2027 to step down by March 31, 2026, at the latest.

The decision was stated in a statement released on Tuesday by Dewan Goshit, head of communication and public relations at the office of the secretary to the government of the federation (OSGF).

Following the conclusion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national conference in 2026, when the majority of the party’s national working committee members were returned without opposition, Yususf Tuggar is anticipated to quit.

Attention has also shifted to cabinet members believed to be nursing political ambitions but who were yet to formally declare their intentions.

A formal announcement of the minister’s run for governorship is expected soon, according to Bauchi state supporters who were a part of the delegation to the convention. They cited rising political support for his possible candidature.

Yusuf Tuggar served as a member of the house of representatives representing Gamawa federal constituency from 2007 to 2011.

Prior to his nomination as minister of foreign affairs in 2023, Yusuf Tuggar served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany under previous President Muhammadu Buhari from 2017 to 2023.

As the timeline for resignations draws near, focus is still on political appointees who are likely to abide by the instruction as the 2027 election preparations accelerate.
