The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State, which featured Cubana Chief Priest, has continued to attract widespread political discussion across the state and the country.
The outcome highlighted the influence of party structure, loyalty, and grassroots mobilisation over popularity and celebrity status.
At the centre of the contest was nightlife entrepreneur and social media personality Paschal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, who entered the race with strong visibility, financial backing, and significant online influence.
His supporters had positioned him as a fresh political alternative capable of challenging established political figures within the party.
However, the primary election ended in a landslide victory for the incumbent lawmaker, High Chief (Hon.) Canice Moore Chigozie Nwachukwu, also known as Omeogo, who is deeply rooted in the APC structure within the constituency.
He reportedly secured 2,846 delegate votes, while Cubana Chief Priest received just 14 votes—a margin that party insiders described as a clear reflection of structure and loyalty outweighing celebrity influence.
Cubana Chief Priest’s campaign had generated considerable attention, with promises focused on personal investment in development projects, youth empowerment, and economic support for the constituency.
His outreach also featured high-profile engagements and strong mobilisation efforts that drew public attention during the primaries.
Despite this, the outcome was largely shaped by established political alliances, long-standing loyalty networks, and entrenched grassroots structures within the APC.
Omeogo, a veteran political actor in the area, is widely regarded as a product of deep party organisation and sustained grassroots engagement.
Cubana Chief Priest is also known as a close political ally of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, with ties to earlier political structures and networks in the state.
