Saheed Oladele: Social Democratic Party has credible support base to win Oyo governorship election

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Oyo State, Saheed Oladele, has called on voters to embrace the responsibility of financially supporting their preferred candidates.

Speaking in an interview in Ibadan, Oladele said public contributions toward credible candidates could play a major role in changing Nigeria’s political landscape and ensuring better leadership.

According to him, as long as voters continue to depend on politicians who allegedly use stolen public funds to influence elections through cash handouts, meaningful change will remain difficult.

He urged citizens to contribute whatever they can, no matter how little, to back leaders they believe in.

Saheed Oladele argued that such support would create a stronger sense of accountability, as elected leaders would know they were brought into office by the people and not by political manipulation or illicit funds.

He also expressed confidence in the strength of the SDP in Oyo State, stating that the party has credible candidates and the support base needed to win the governorship and other elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

The SDP flagbearer said he joined the race because of the hardship in the state and his desire to improve governance.

He promised that if elected, his administration would focus on improving education, healthcare, and job creation.

Oladele also pointed to his political influence, noting that despite leaving the All Progressives Congress for the SDP, many of his supporters remained loyal to him.

Saheed Oladele’s confidence in the Social Democratic Party comes as political activities in Oyo State begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Oladele, who defected from the All Progressives Congress to the SDP, has maintained that his move did not weaken his political base, insisting many of his supporters moved with him.

His remarks also reflect growing calls for alternative political platforms in Oyo, as voters continue to express concerns over economic hardship, governance, and the performance of mainstream political parties.
