The deteriorating welfare of schoolchildren, particularly minors whom criminals kidnapped during coordinated raids in Oyo and Borno States on May 15, 2026, has continued to fuel growing concern.
Recall that the victims, captured in simultaneous attacks across both states, have now spent at least 54 days in captivity, enduring harsh conditions in the bush amid continuous heavy rainfall.
Health professionals warned that if authorities do not rescue the kidnapped children within the next few days, the harsh weather could expose them to pneumonia, malaria, asthma, and other potentially life-threatening illnesses.
Backstory…
Terrorists invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School, Esiele, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, kidnapping at least 39 pupils and seven teachers, including the school principal.
Days following the abduction, the terrorists released a disturbing clips showing the gruesome beheading of one of the teachers identified as Mr. Michael Oyedokun.
Following this, were reports claiming that one of the abducted pupils had also died in captivity. But, the Oyo State Police Command dismissed the claim, insisting that it was false.
The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde later confirmed that the kidnappers were still within the state, adding that the exact location at the time was the Old Oyo National Park.

Multiple Protests Over The Abduction

Teachers and schoolchildren in Bayelsa state also staged a protest weeks ago. Additionally, social media activist, VDM also previously staged a protest.
Very recently, Take-it-back movement on its own part announced its state wide protest over the abduction and continued detainment of pupils.
