Omah Lay explains why he stopped trying to quit smoking

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Omah Stanley Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has revealed that he has stopped putting pressure on himself to quit smoking.

The ‘Soso’ hitmaker made the disclosure during a recent podcast interview with DJ Dan, where he spoke about his experience with the habit.

Omah Lay said he had made several attempts to stop smoking but struggled to maintain the decision.

According to the singer, he has now accepted that smoking is part of his life, noting that he will eventually die regardless of whether he continues the habit.

He also explained that smoking gives him what he described as an “artificial happiness” and a feeling of rebellion, particularly because cannabis is illegal in Nigeria.

The singer’s comments have sparked reactions online, with fans and social media users debating his views on smoking, personal choices and the pressures surrounding addiction.

“I love smoking a lot. I tried to stop, I forced myself but I can’t. Honestly bro, life is just one. I am going to just die one day. We are all going to die one day. So what’s the essence [of forcing myself to stop smoking]?

“I just want to be at peace and smoke my weed. And the fact that it is illegal in Nigeria, it give me artificial happiness and a sense of rebellion. This is it. This is my life. I will just live it. I will enjoy every single thing that I have,” he said.
