Nobel Peace Prize Snub: Trump Says He Doesn’t Want Norwegians in US

According to The Telegraph, U.S. President Donald Trump has declared Norwegian immigrants unwelcome in the United States after failing to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

The president delivered the remarks during an address to supporters at a campaign rally in Michigan on Monday.

Trump, in the attack on the country, said, “Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually.

I will welcome immigrants from Denmark but not from Norway because ‌I didn’t get the Nobel Prize, so I don’t want anybody from Norway.”

Trump has lobbied for the Nobel Peace Prize for years, previously pressuring the five-member Norwegian parliamentary committee to recognize his global diplomatic efforts.

Despite his rally remarks, the U.S. government has issued no formal policy changes regarding immigration from Scandinavian nations.

Trump also reiterated his claim of resolving eight international conflicts and recalled telling Melania before the announcement that winning the award would mark a great honor.

Earlier this month, the Nobel Committee awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to former UN Human Rights High Commissioner Navi Pillay of South Africa.

She was recognised for being “instrumental in ensuring war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are prosecuted”, according to Jørgen Watne Frydnes, the Nobel committee chairman.

However , the U.S. president called Pillay “a woman that nobody ever heard of” and said he asked: “What about me? Do they do two of them?”

Backstory…

Trump previously labeled the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s refusal to grant him the Peace Prize as an “indelible stain” and a “disgraceful and shameful” decision.

Responding on national radio NRK on Monday, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that Trump fully understands the committee’s autonomy. “He is well aware of the independence of the Nobel committee. If anyone is wondering, we have reminded them of it, and that remains true,” Eide remarked.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre similarly informed Trump last year that an independent body—not the Norwegian government—selects the laureate.

After he did not win this year, Mr Trump replied, “The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilisation.”

Ms. Pillay, the first non-white female judge on the South African High Court, mocked Trump’s ambition to win the prize. “If you clap a little bit more, I may split this trophy with Trump,” she declared to a cheering audience at the Nuremberg court after learning of her victory.

When Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado won the award last year, Trump unleashed a torrent of vitriol. Machado later presented her award to Trump during a White House meeting, stating she offered it in appreciation of his dedication to Venezuela’s freedom.

The Nobel Committee subsequently clarified that rules prohibit recipient transfer, sharing, or withdrawal once the committee announces the prize.
