Backstory…

The arrest of the 11 suspects follows an alleged attack on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and members of his team at Tawakalitu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), asserted on Friday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration plans to assassinate him, warning that his life remains in grave danger.

Additionally, Sowore alleged that although eyewitnesses recorded the attack on camera, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police seized the video footage to cover up the incident.

“They beat me like a criminal. They came from nowhere, about 20 of them, armed with sticks and bottles. They said they will kill me if I come to Ekiti again,” Sowore said.
